Attendents

Why do so many brides have such a hard time deciding who to have as bridesmaids? And why do they think the solution is to have everyone they know as an attendent?

Sweethearts,
the answer is simple: have your best friends. It doesn't have to be your sister unless you are very close, it doesn't have to be your roommate, or your college dormitory.

This is an important and intimate day. The people who stand up with you should be your very best and closest friends. If it is one that is still fine.

Trust me, it will look better in the photographers to have one than to have thirty.

As You Wish said...

I give my brides similar advise, but suggest they err on the side of more attendants instead of less. I agree that they need to be very good friends with the members of their wedding party, but the more important aspect, I have found, is that the attendants are responsible and reliable. (No one wants to spend the whole day chasing the groomsmen back into place.)

There are two reasons I suggest slightly larger parties: 1) they reduce the risk of offending anyone they should have included, but didn't have "room for". 2) duties can be shared/split among more people, making it easier and cheaper on all of them.

I've seen a bride offend her oldest friend all because she was trying to keep the wedding party small. Would three maids really have been that much more difficult than two?
